The Promiscuous Millennial Shopper

What is “in” today can be “out” in a week for the “Millennials”.  We all have seen their lifestyles with the hipster coffee-house visits, Instagram unboxing-stories showing off their latest kicks or uber rides to the trendiest club night. In Everything, they have the urge to seek instant gratification with a mantra shop eat sleep repeat.

They shop promiscuously, love to live in the big cities with small houses and adapt to technology which can make them claim the fame of being Bold. If you can relate to this so far, you are on the right page at the right time. We at PS interiors have curated the latest millennial decor trends and bring across the flavor of the season (knowing very well your choices will change next season since you are a millennial!).

1. Multipurpose storage did you say?

What is the point of owning anything if it cannot serve you in at least 5 different ways!

We don’t know any millennial who doesn’t own the brightly colored IKEA storage boxes and uses them as a table or as a stool. Cost effective, simple, convenient and OCD friendly, these are the must-haves to save some space and organize your collection. You can tuck them beneath your bed, in your cupboard or even your car.

Just ensure the color matches your wall paint or your phone case at least 🙂

2. Everything rose gold and marble!

We are still not over the color theme of Tania’s Tea House. (Check out my blog post of that place). It is so easy to achieve luxury and simplicity at the same time at a lower price, if you choose this combination of rose gold and marble finish accents. You can host the perfect tea parties while listening to Drake or Buddha Bar, all you need is the right lighting and comfy cushions.

Caution: this combination is a tad bit girly but who doesn’t like that?

  1. Can my cushions be more expensive than my sofa?

Hell Ya! What Millennial thinks twice before splurging on the soft, fluffy, eye-catchy cushion? Call it a throw pillow, shop stopper, unicorn, arm candy you name it but claim it. These make so much sense as we forgot what was comfort without this! Also, these don’t go out of fashion easily.

Hint: they are an investment if you ask us so don’t think twice before buying.

  1. Alexa turn on the lights. Blink!

But wait, we thought Millennials don’t like things like Edison bulb because it is stuff from the past. Erm… no such thing! Edison bulbs will make you look smart if not cool. Choose from a wide range of digital bulbs and save your money for the next date night. Also isn’t it romantic to command the lights and woo your girl?  If you don’t want Alexa or Melissa to control it, you can always opt for the motion sensor technology.

  1. Green Leafy Stuff

Succulents, cacti or anything in green is a must-have decor. Succulents have a thick, dense nature because they retain water …. like cacti. But we aren’t talking just about cacti when we’re talking about succulents. We’re talking about an array of green shades and fun textures that are alive and bring a bout of fresh air to any space of the house. We love using these to sprinkle around the house during the summer months.

  1. Who has time to paint?

Answer: Wallpapers!

The ageless discovery, this can convert any room into anything you desire and would cost you half the price and more the value. Millennials usually prefer neutral tones with bold prints which can give the small room a bigger breathing area. Sometimes just wallpaper on a single wall can do wonders. Make sure you have the eye to select the right texture, print or color.

Some stores we like to explore in Dubai

  1. Your best bet – Online (SheIn, The Bowery Company, Namshi and many more..)
  2. Dragon Market
  3. H&M decor
  4. Pylones (Dubai Mall, UAE)
  5. Ikea
  6. Virgin Megastore
  7. Urban Outfitters (not available in UAE)
  8. Forever 21
  9. Typo

So what not to shop?

  1. Leather
  2. Single purpose items
  3. Kids friendly furniture/decor (you might be on the wrong page)
  4. Plastic (because eww)
  5. Personalized items (Millenials we don’t like attachments)
  6. Intricate detailing (surely must be expensive)

We Instagrammers and Bloggers keep looking for new places that are #instaworthy and #pinteresty. And the same way I discovered this pretty looking place called TANIA’S TEAHOUSE that is located near Burj Al Arab.

Tania’s Teahouse is every girl’s dream place…tea themed cafe has a wide range of special tea selection, coffee, breakfast food, and desserts. From pink color walls to punny & motivational quotes on the walls to rose gold furniture & cutlery to marble finishes to green plants all around the villa…this place has everything. The two-storey cafe has stylishly blended the millennial minimalism and pastel furnishings. Let’s look at the interiors:

Ground floor seating

cute little corner with books and games

I’m in love with the gallery wall on their spiral staircase.

This place is the brainchild of a Dubai-based tea lover. With attention to detail, Tania has perfectly conceptualized this cafe as a perfect place to study and work. The menu is so well designed with unique names for their specialty teas. At the time of order, Tania herself came to us and explained her own blended tea flavors. Along with tea and coffee, there is also healthy salad or the all-day breakfast options, before indulging in an array of desserts from cookies to cupcakes. Let’s take a look at what we ordered:

Desert Rose Latte with fashion-inspired Barista Art (25ED)

Chai Pudding with Berries (45 AED)

Mermaid Toast – with cream cheese, honey, and banana (35AED)

This is not it, located next to the tea bar, there is also a gift shop selling their tea-themed goodies from mugs to skincare products to customized Tees and jewelry.

This place is worth a visit. A perfect spot to visit for breakfast, lunch or just sit in a corner with a book and a cup of tea. I am definitely going back to spend some ME time till then xoxo.

You’ve bought the art, and now comes the tricky bit—how do you display it? How high is too high? How many should you combine in a collage to create a unique but coherent statement? How secure can your art be without destroying your wall with hideously heavy nails? Our take: it’s less science and more art. Sure, there’s the 57″ rule (A work of art should have its center 57 inches off the floor—average human eye level), and the fact that you should probably start in the middle and then work around it, all the while treating the collage as one picture, not many. And we do advice you to use two hooks per artwork so they stay level. However, the fact of the matter remains that it’s really all up to you, so have fun with it (with some sense of proportion, of course): mix disparate—or objects—images together, go ceiling to floor, and switch art around every few weeks. Whatever you do, the ruler stays your best friend, and so does a strapping someone who holds up the art while you have that long, decisive think

Hello friends!

Today I am going to enlighten you with some of the latest summer styles that’s trending these days in basically all the types of industries. I’ve been seeing these trends everywhere from fashion to interiors and in the work of some of today’s top contemporary artists. With any trend, I recommend incorporating small touches into your own home and accessories and artwork are a great way to do this.

Below are the mood boards I put together of all of the things I’ve been inspired by lately and also some ideas for how you can incorporate this look into your own home! I hope you find this as inspiring as I do!

1) Starting with PASTELS…This year, pastels are all the rage.  We’ve already seen them on the runways in spring fashion collections, but did you know pastels will be big for interiors, too?  A complete 180 from the dark greys and heavy wood tones that have dominated the interior scene lately, this spring we’ll see things freshen up with light shades of our favorite colors.  The trick?  Keeping it contemporary.
2) NeoN Brights….Bright and Funky, everyone needs a little neon in their life at some point don’t they? I am really loving bright pops of colour right now, from my electric blue skinny jeans to the gorgeous HELLO KITTY lipstick I recently purchased in the hottest pink.
Here you have an eclectic mix of bold and bright neon colours, very kitsch and quirky, I can see this working really well against a stark, white backdrop, or perhaps something more urban and industrial.
3) Pretty in Lace…With a provocative and sweet feel, it’s no surprise that lace has become the ultimate must-have this season. From dark and edgy to vintage and soft, the versatile, ornate fabric can do no wrong. We’ve seen this trend on a variety of looks this season ranging from tops and skirts, to gloves and jewelry and now to INTERIORS as well..
4) TEAL color…..This is not your ordinary teal. This is a stand-out, warmly tinted, wildly refined, deep teal. Neither green nor blue, silent nor shocking, deep teal pauses in a perfect middle-ground aesthetic that will turn heads and feel just right at home or in your closet…
5) NATURAL…There is something to be said about the timeless looks of a neutral palette in INTERIORS or FASHION. One of the current trend, of course, were the so-called “neutral” colors: beige, nude, flesh-colored, and shades of powder or sand and similar to them palette of semitones.
The naturalness, innocence, tenderness – that’s what designers remind us in their spring collections. This applies to evening dresses and to casual wear, to lingerie and shoes, to handbags and all other kinds of accessories and home decor.
6) LEOPARD…..Leopard, leopard and more leopard is all that we are seeing from last few seasons.  Leopard is the popular trend in prints and textiles.  It is also used in just about every apparel piece, shoe, watch, and even nail art this season. It has started its trend in home interiors as well from floor rugs to throw pillows and beyond.
7) MINIMALIST….Minimalism is a trend that has been used in interior design and architecture. Minimalist design has been highly influenced by Japanese traditional design and architecture. The trend somehow helps you to create a smart, relaxing, clutter-free look in your home. Thus, modern minimalist pictured softer, more personal and easier to live with.
8) PAINTERLY…The new painting techniques are popping up in everything from tabletop decor and cushions to wallpaper, from mobile covers to handbags. Wide brush strokes, mural paintings and finger painting are opening up new ways to incorporate vibrant flourishes of art in our everyday lives.
9) SUZANI…In its most general sense, the Uzbek word “suzani” means needlework. However, most suzani lovers associate the word with the intricate, beautiful, and colorful embroidery work made by women in the Central Asian country of Uzbekistan. They add great pattern and beautiful eclectic touch and can work in country, modern or vintage interiors.
10) ART…Colorful and Abstract!!
So what do you guys think of these trends?? Please leave your feedbacks and comments below. And also tell me which one is your favorite? I LOVE, LOVE all of them 😀 * Cheers*
